The Rails Before the Revival

Scripture: "For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it?" — Luke 14:28 (NKJV)

We often long for power, miracles, momentum — but forget that preparation and the time it requires is part of God's process:

  • Before rain came, Noah had to build
  • Before the fire of Pentecost fell, they waited and came into unity
  • Before the Son of God's nearly 3 year ministry changed everything, he spent 30 years laying the foundation daily living by growing and maturing in this life

This week, I reflected on how modern technologies don't really change the world until the supporting infrastructure is capable, and then I remembered something I shared a decade ago in a talk:

Most railway tracks in use today are still exactly 4 feet, 8.5 inches apart (a favourite hobby, gotta talk about trains)— this came from the same width as the ruts in ancient Roman roads in Europe. Those ruts in their roads were shaped by Roman war chariots, which were designed to fit two horses side-by-side.

In other words, modern infrastructure still runs on an ancient design that had a purpose.

God does the same. The quiet tracks that He lays in one season may shape direction for many generations.

Here's a self Reflection:

  1. Where is God laying infrastructure for your life?
  2. What 'standards' or 'foundations' is He quietly putting in place?

Suggested Prayer:

Lord, thank You for the season of preparation. I'm willing and excited that you can lay the tracks for my life journey. Please shape me with Your standards.

And when the moment comes, let me be ready — unburdened, unwavering, on board.

And as the wonderful Curtis Mayfield reminded us in song, that when you hear the diesels a humming...

"You don’t need no baggage, you just get on board."

"You don’t need no ticket, you just thank the Lord."

Let's all be in harmony and get on that ride!
